Went to the dentist today to have a cavity filled.
I know what you’re thinking…
Joy. 🙄
(… and, yes, I know I should floss more.)
But despite the whistle of the drill, the numb face, and that weird smell of something burning (Pardon me, kind sir, but is that my tooth?), I actually had a pretty good time…
Why, do you ask? Was it the free drugs? Or have I finally given in to the inevitable and gone crazy?
Not yet. 😁
First: like any good reader, I came prepared (because, seriously… How do people wait in a doctor’s office without a book!?!)
But Second: When the dental hygienist saw that I was reading, she got excited and we ended up talking about books for a good 20 minutes.
…. The dentist had to tell us: hey, ladies… we’re here to do something (Like hold me down while drilling into my teeth… you know, whatever)
We both kind of blinked at him for a second before remembering where we were.
… but that co-book-lover grin never left either of our faces.
It’s one of the things I LOVE about being a reader… no matter where you go, you’ll usually bump into someone else with the same addiction.
And these people are the best people!
Plus, you get the bonus book recommendations that come with (some of my all-time favorite books have come from these conversations 🙂
Have you ever had a random encounter with a fellow written-word-junkie because they saw you reading?
I feel like it’s happened to most of us at some point 😁 and it’s all part of the fun…
Books = bringing strangers together. The original social media.
Go forth and read, my friend!
